Our Foundational Tenets

  1. As diverse descendants of the Nordic folk and other lineages, we adopt for our tribe the ancient name of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Scandia, as a unifying identity.
  2.  We embrace the ancestral Nordic heritage: the language, the culture, the crafts and skills, and the religion.
  3. Each member is free to follow their own inner guidance in how they conceive of the nature of our Gods and Goddesses, and each member respects the beliefs of others. They may be understood as literal Divine Beings.  They may be understood as individuated Aspects of the Divine that embody particular spiritual attributes. They may be understood as Ascended Masters who embody particular spiritual attributes.  They may be understood as representing Primal Energies that can be accessed and utilized. In all cases, they possess great power, and we see evidence of their creative force all around us. We seek their guidance, wisdom and strength, and honor them, and ourselves, through our deeds.
  4. We recognize that Nature is alive, and we embrace it and our place within it. We strive to act in alignment with Nature, to protect it, to heal it, and to withstand any action or activity that would cause it harm.
  5. We recognize that, as the Æsir represent a Warrior spiritual tradition, and the Vanir represent an older Fertility spiritual tradition of cultivated nature, that there is yet an older Shamanic, wilderness spiritual tradition. We embrace these three layers, to access the energies of wild nature, to access the energies of cultivated nature, and to access the energies of the spiritual warrior.
  6. We recognize that, just as biological diversity creates the beauty and health of nature, so to does cultural diversity create the beauty and health of human society.  Thus, it is incumbent upon us to revive and to preserve our own cultural heritage and traditions, and to respect and appreciate the beauty of other cultures.
  7. We recognize that we are a displaced people, as such, we are also connected to the energies of our adopted land in North America and to the spiritual truths of its native inhabitants.
  8. We recognize that the Earth we have known is undergoing drastic changes and that we must prepare for the consequences climate change, developing the knowledge and skills of our ancestors, so that we can thrive in a world that requires that we live closer to the Earth.
  9. We cherish the opportunity to live earthly lives and cherish the earthly bodies that we’ve been given. Thus, we maintain the health of our bodies through proper diet and exercise, so that we may live life to its fullest, and so that we may possess the physical strength and the inner resolve to survive what lies ahead.
